A MLB team owner is planning to send out a large amount of money to the children who lost their fathers in the recent NYPD shooting.
New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, who has been deceased since 2010, started a program called the Yankees Silver Shield Foundation. This program offers financial assistance for the children whose lost their parents that were New York law enforcement officers, firemen, or even Port Authority that died during the line of duty. This program also applies to any children who lost their parent(s) during the September 11 attack.
How the program started is that during a news report on television, the news showed a story of four children carrying an American flag at a funeral of their father, who was killed while he was working. Since this program began only 4 years ago, thousands of children who lost their parents while on duty have received some sort of financial assistance for their education.
This program also applies to the children of Rafael Ramos, who was killed just recently while on duty during an anti-terrorism drill.
